New Product Launch: SELICA SS-12RB and SS-12RBY Swiss-Type Lathes

SELICA has expanded its Swiss-type CNC lathe range with the launch of two new 12 mm models: the SS-12RB and SS-12RBY. Developed for small bar-fed components, both machines provide a maximum machining diameter of 12 mm together with main and sub-spindles, driven-tool capability and a compact machine layout. The SS-12RB covers the turning and backworking requirements of many small precision parts, while the SS-12RBY adds Y-axis capability for components with off-centre drilling and milling features.

Main and Sub-Spindle Machining

The SS-12RB and SS-12RBY are equipped with main and sub-spindles, both using built-in spindle motors. The sub-spindle receives the component after the main-spindle operations and completes the required machining on the cut-off side. This allows front and rear features to be arranged within the same production cycle and can reduce the need for a separate second operation. C-axis control on both spindles also supports spindle positioning for drilling and milling with driven tools.

SS-12RB or SS-12RBY

The SS-12RB provides the main turning, driven-tool and backworking functions required for many small precision components. The SS-12RBY adds Y-axis capability for applications with off-centre holes, slots, flats or other milled features. This gives the engineering team more flexibility when arranging cross-drilling and milling operations.

Not every component requires the Y-axis. The SS-12RB may be sufficient for parts with standard turning and driven-tool features, while the SS-12RBY is more suitable when the drawing includes features positioned away from the spindle centreline.

Flexible Tooling and Automation

Depending on the selected configuration, the machine can accommodate up to 27 tools, including turning, internal and driven-tool positions. The tooling layout can be arranged according to the part drawing and required machining sequence. A suitable bar feeder can also be integrated for continuous production.

The SS-12RB and SS-12RBY can be considered for applications including:
